What Service Types Do Optimum and Vexus Offer?

While both Optimum and Vexus are known for their fiber Internet, Optimum offers HFC Internet as well, so you have options if you don’t live in a region that currently supports Optimum Fiber. Optimum also provides Internet in 21 states nationwide, whereas Vexus Fiber is only available in three states.

Here’s a bit about the different types of Internet service Optimum provides:

Fiber

Fiber Internet is delivered through fiber cables made of glass. It's known for providing high-bandwidth connections, making it a fast Internet option. Fiber is also sometimes favored over cable because the network is more reliable. (For a deeper explanation, read our guide to Fiber vs. 5G home Internet.)

At Optimum, our fiber Internet uses glass fibers, which provide reliability and symmetrical upload and download speeds. Our fiber plans also feature:

  • Smart Wi-Fi 6 for reliable Wi-Fi throughout your home
  • Support for high-resolution video streaming up to 8k
  • Low latency for better experiences watching videos and playing games

Hybrid Fiber Coaxial (HFC)

Hybrid Fiber Coaxial, a.k.a. as HFC, is a telecommunications network using Fiber and coaxial cable to provide high-speed Internet, videos, music, and voice services to homes. Just how fast HFC is depends on your specific plan, but generally, HFC plans go up to 1 Gig. If you live in an area where Optimum Fiber Internet isn't available, service is provided over HFC cable and connected to our larger 100% Fiber Internet network.

With Optimum’s HFC Internet offering, you can get up to 1 Gig Internet and Smart Wi-Fi 6. This speed will allow you to stream, work, and game online with ease.

Hybrid Fiber Coaxial (HFC) vs. Fiber Speeds

Both HFC and fiber can be great Internet options. If you're deciding between the two, look at your needs-especially in terms of speed. At Optimum, we have various offerings with different Internet speeds, so you can find a plan that will work for you based on your Internet usage. This includes fiber plans that range in speed from 300 Mbps to 8 Gig* in certain areas, and HFC plans with speeds from 100 Mbps to 1 Gig.
