That is up nearly 10% in a single year. The typical (median) home used about 532 GB, and roughly one in four households now counts as a power user, chewing through a full terabyte or more every month.
What's driving the jump? More screens, more 4K, more video calls and a lot more connected gadgets. The average US internet home now juggles around 17 connected devices, from phones and TVs to doorbells and thermostats, per Parks Associates. Each one sips a little bandwidth, and together they add up fast. The real takeaway: your internet diet isn't one big meal, it's hundreds of small bites all day long. And it keeps climbing: OpenVault's mid-2026 reading puts the average at 711 GB a month, up 7.1% in a year, so the number you plan around next year will be bigger than today's.
Not all activities are created equal. Streaming video and video calls are the heavy hitters, while live gaming and browsing are lighter than most people expect, at least until someone starts a big download. Here's a rough look at how common activities stack up.
