Optimum and DIRECTV both have strong reputations and great services at reasonable costs. Upon further investigation, we've found that Optimum offers speeds ranging from 100-940 Mbps.
DIRECTV, on the other hand, does not offer Internet but you can opt-in for it through AT&T. AT&T owns DIRECTV so that's what makes this possible. Both service providers also offer unlimited data plans and plans with no contracts which means you don't need to stress about early termination fees for those offerings.
How is the set-up process?
Optimum offers free installation if you opt for one of their web deals, otherwise they charge a one-time fee of $99 for a scheduled professional installation. This includes Wi-Fi configuration for up to six devices, the hardwiring of one device, and assistance with setting up your Optimum account. If you are interested in setting up more devices with Optimum, you can opt for the premium installation which costs $129 or $59 through the website. DIRECTV does not charge an initial installation fee. However, there is a $99 installation fee for additional receivers plus a $7 monthly charge. In addition, you need to pay a regional sports fee of up to $9.99/month.
How is the Internet Quality and Speed?
Optimum costs $40/month for 300 Mbps, $60/month for 500 Mbps, and $80/month for 1 GB (940 Mbps).
As discussed previously, DIRECTV does not offer Internet but you can opt-in for AT&T’s Internet services include prices such as 100 Mbps for $35/month, 300 Mbps for $45/month and 1000 Mbps for $60/month.

What are the Internet options?
Optimum offers both cable and fiber to an estimated 12.9 million people spanning four U.S. states. AT&T offers fiber to several million people across 21 states. The main difference between fiber and cable is that cable is sent through copper TV lines whereas fiber is made of plastic and used mainly for Internet service. Fiber is typically considered better due to its ability to provide high-bandwidth connections and quick upload times. Furthermore, fiber tends to suffer less from slowdowns caused by high traffic. It should be mentioned that fiber is not always an option in certain areas due to the high costs associated with it. The good news is that Optimum does still offer cable if fiber is not offered near you.
What home telephone services do they offer?
Optimum offers a home telephone service when combined with an Internet and/or television package. If you're interested in telephone and Internet only, you can choose Internet that is 300Mbps ($45/month), 500Mbps ($50/month) or 940 Mbps ($55/month). As for DIRECTV, they offer home phone services through AT&T. AT&T offers two home telephone options to customers, one being the Complete Choice Enhanced package which allows local calls for $48/month. They also have a nationwide plan that allows for long-distance calls for $70/month.
How do Optimum Mobile and AT&T mobile phone plans work?
Altice, the company that owns Optimum, has a mobile phone service that starts at $14/month per line. If you're interested in unlimited data, you can opt-in for this for only $45/month per line. Optimum Mobile offers a nationwide network with 5G access and no multi-line commitments.
DIRECTV does not offer mobile phone plans, but AT&T does. AT&T offers three distinct mobile plans, all of which require a minimum of four lines. All these plans include unlimited calls, texts, and data throughout the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. Their lowest cost option is the AT&T Unlimited Starter which typically costs $35/month. The AT&T Unlimited Extra Plan costs $40/month and includes an additional 50GB of premium data. Lastly, the AT&T Unlimited Elite package offers an additional 100GB of premium data.
What are the television options?
Optimum offers several packages including Core TV with 220+ channels for $74.99/month, Value TV with 255+ channels for $79.99/month, Select TV with 340+ channels for $89.99/month and Premier TV with 420+ channels, Showtime, HBO Max, and Starz for $124.99/month.
DIRECTV offers the DIRECTV Entertainment package which includes 160+ channels for $64.99/month, the DIRECTV Choice package which includes 185+ channels, regional sports networks, and HBO MAX for one year for $69.99/month, as well as the DIRECTV Ultimate package which includes 250+ channels, Blockbuster movies, regional sports networks, HBO MAX for one year for $84.99/month.

What are the different types of bundles?
Optimum has various packages for Internet, television, and home phone services. If you are interested in having all the above, you can opt-in for any of the following package: Optimum 300 (300Mbps), Core TV and phone for $70/month, Optimum 500 (500Mbps), Core TV, and phone for $75/month, or Optimum 1 Gig (940mbps), Core TV and phone for $80/month. These packages include over 220 channels. If you do not need a home phone, there are also few bundles consisting of Internet and TV only. The TV options in these bundles typically range from 50-220+ channels. As for the Internet, the speeds start at 300 Mbps go up to 940 Mbps. Internet and TV bundles can cost anywhere between $50-$70/month.
DIRECTV offers television bundles (as mentioned above) but you will need to utilize AT&T's Internet services if you want to bundle television, Internet, and/or a home telephone. Prices vary depending on location however, the DIRECTV website states that you can save $10/month for a whole year if you bundle AT&T Internet services with DIRECTV. It should also be mentioned that this requires a 2-year agreement

Both Optimum and DIRECTV offer a variety of television channels, as well as the ability to utilize Internet, television, mobile and home phone services either directly through the service provider or through partners.
